In October and again in March, the program ran a series of stonecutting workshops with master lettercutter, Ian Marr. Ian has an interest in carving the original ‘pilot guides’ from the river captains charts into large slate benches. He was able to do some of this work while he was here and also facilitate workshops for the community.

Ian set up at the Pera Bore school for most of the week where the workshops were run . He encouraged all students to make a carving in stone and engage in the river map they were making. It was a wonderful way for participants to think about and engage with their river and the finished stone bench is a unique and poignant reminder of the age of the river and our responsibilities with it.
