In August, acclaimed ‘found objects sculpture artist, Nigel White came to Bourke to spend a week with us making sculptures relating to stormwater and catchment health. A lot of steel material was collected from the river during ‘clean up Australia day, and we had community groups collect other piles of discarded steel from gullies and other dumping sites in the cathchement. All the participants in the workshop were then able to select objects based on their shape and texture and combine them to form sculptures of animals that would be affected by stormwater pollution. This was an excellent workshop to attend and has been a wonderful tool for stormwater awareness. The sculptures are very effective and have been displayed around the Bourke community. They have also been in National magazines, State-wide arts circulations, State-wide radio and local media. They are currently installed at various private venues around town such as schools, motels and government departments. Click on the thumbnails below to see large version of all pieces |
