During week 5, Term 4, 32 students from 9 schools within the Dubbo District travelled to Bourke to participate in our first ‘Creative Arts Camp’ – with the Darling River on our doorstep it became the focus and title of our camp - “Where the River Runs”.

Students were very fortunate to have the leadership of Author/Illustrators Donna Rawlings and Matt Ottley also Colin Gould I Movie specialists and local teachers Amanda Cook (BSODE) in printmaking and Alison Van Kerchof (BHS) with Drama. Local song writer performer Andrew Hull also provided the students with a song writing session and then led them in a performance of their ‘River Song’.

Our Camp base was the Gidgee Guest House, a great location provided by Chris and Kristy. Students were also able to view the rivers many interpretations at the Back ‘O Bourke Exhibition Centre and experience the river first hand with a cruise on the Jandra.

A very big thank you must be extended to all tutors, staff, parents and students who were involved in our camp and also to community members, and organisations who gave their support to make the event possible.
